A Ukrainian DJ and sound producer JOSS stands among a select few to have had a significant influence on the development of the electronic music scene in his home country. For approximately 20 years, he’s been consistently upholding a high-quality bar: vinyl sets only and the highest quality sound possible of his releases.
JOSS has channeled his passion for vinyl into creating international brands by launching vinyl labels Artreform and Jerelo Records. Today, after an almost 10- year run, their catalogs include more than 50 vinyl releases: Franco Cinelli, Silat Becksi, Robot Needs Oil, Benno Blome, Frank Lorber, Djebali, Rhadow, Silat Becksi, IO (Mulen). And, of course, JOSS releases as well.
Regardless of what he’s busy with, be it packing his DJ bag with records for an upcoming gig or listening through new demo submissions to his labels. JOSS always trusts his honed over the years ear for music. His sets are dominated by driving tech house, classic house with an accent on its deep variety, intelligent techno, and minimal house. He belongs to a small niche of DJs capable of avoiding being at a loss at the sight of rotary mixers or hi-end PA systems and leveraging those and unfolding on top-tier dancefloors instead . If JOSS and the sound system match, he can play for 5, 7, or 8 hours on end, continuously surprising the crowd with each next track. His sets at Ostrov Festival, Boom Boom Room, or Berlin’s IPSE are fondly remembered for years onwards.
Nevertheless, JOSS is not going to slide into obscurity any time soon. He continues to release new music with remarkable regularity, ceaselessly exploring almost limitless possibilities of his eponymous studio with many analog synthesizers and cutting-edge gear units that allow one to achieve exceptional sound. One of the best Kyiv studios is instrumental in developing a strong community of artists and musicians from the immensely talented Ukrainian capital.
